Rock Machine

There is no doubt that there has been resurgence in the popularity of Progressive Rock Music over the last few years. Some say progressive rock never died. Punk supposedly "killed" prog but even John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) admitted that many prog bands were favourites of his, (after the punk dust settled), and his follow up band PiL went on to explore many progressive directions. The popularity of new prog band Marillion in the 1980's showed the world that prog was just biding its time and gradually new bands began to reject mainstream, opting for the exploration and freedom, that prog music offered them. Prog has always been the kitchen or lab for music and each "new" prog sound has been followed by a corresponding "copycat" sound surge, in pop music. Even ABBA used synths and sounds, previously only found in the prog area. Today there are many bands proudly naming themselves prog and the old bands are also as popular as ever. A veritable audio history of rock music. Future shows will continue the chronology of music by years as well as classic albums in detail, whole albums by artists and so much more. So if you want to learn the history of that creature named rock, that we love so much, listen to the new Progressive Rock Machine from Show number 1

Atomic Countdown

This show comes out of 2 REM in Albury and is all about up and coming new music new artists and live bands X Award Winner - Atomic Countdown Albury Wodonga based 2REM FM's drive to engage the youth demographic has yielded promising results. Their artist-orientated programming has cultivated a loyal new following by orchestrating a localized music countdown for original musicians. Regional musicians are often the most inspired, residing in the natural beauty of the countryside. They are frequently known to submit their original music works to community radio stations in order to get put into rotation. The crew down at 2REM is amalgamating these submissions into 'the borders' own top-twenty music countdown, The Atomic Countdown. The competitive nature of the charts has invigorated teenagers and young adults, galvanizing a loyal following for the show and a new-found pride for contemporary music and creative pursuits in the regional area. This fantastic initiative has made use of the various new forms of media (digital and social) to spread the word about the music charts and encourage song submissions online. The program made good use of picture sharing on Facebook to encourage text message voting, a practice that really engaged listening audiences with several hundred messages being sent in the first few months and later by creating a music streaming service online. By promoting regional artists in a semi-celebrity style fashion online the Atomic Albury Facebook page has grown exponentially over the last 12 months to the benefit of the local music industry. For their achievements 2REM was awarded this year's X-Award for best locally produced music program.

WorldMix

WorldMix - a global hits show bringing global music to a local audience. WorldMix embarks upon a weekly 2 hour musical tour of the globe, inter-weaving great new and classic music from artists based all over the world in a progressive mainstream style radio show. After all, we believe that ‘world music’ shouldn’t always remain niche, specialist and isolated when it flows seamlessly with hits from established artists. The show highlights not only the very latest releases from a wealth of musicians based across the world, both established and emerging, but also digs out some great classics that you just might not have heard in a long time. In the first hour, Dan Sweeney also drops in every week, highlighting a ‘one-hit-wonder’ - an artist that enjoyed success only once in the US Billboard charts. In the second hour amongst a world of amazing music, we bring you the ‘80s fix’, delving deep into the extensive WorldMix record library in a segment consisting of two tracks from artists from that great era. It's a unique blend that interlaces music genres and styles in a show that sits perfectly in any programme slot. Rupert Palmer is no stranger to radio, having learnt his trade at several small-scale UK stations before moving on to Viking Radio in the 1990s under the wing of legendary broadcaster Tim Stewart. From there he travelled to West Africa, head-hunted to manage Sierra Leone’s first privately-run commercial radio station ABC FM 94; overseeing the station’s popularity and explosive growth.
