Key Dates
The 2011 National Regional Rural and Sub Metro Broadcasters Conference kicks off on Friday March 11th with the free Welcome BBQ that has been such a tradition at SCMA’s conferences.
The conference itself gets underway on Saturday March 12th and concluding on Sunday March 13th 2011.
Venue
The venue for the 2011 Conference will be the Wagga Wagga RSL Club the site of the 2009 National Regional Rural and Sub Metro Broadcasters Conference.
All Conference events other than the Welcome BBQ will be held at the RSL Club including the Conference Dinner and the X Awards presentations.
Transport
The great thing about Wagga Wagga as a Conference venue is the availability of direct transport to the city. There are direct flights from both Sydney and Melbourne via REX airlines and Qantas flights from Sydney. There is train travel from both Melbourne and Sydney as well as bus connections.
Wagga is located about half way between Sydney and Melbourne just off the Hume Highway.
The Conference
Enough about the host town lets talk ‘conference’. We are in the early stages of planning workshops, plenary sessions and events so now is the time for you to tell us what you want to see at the 2011 National regional Rural and Sub Metro Broadcasters Conference. This is your conference and we want your input into the program, theme and activities let us know what your suggestions are via conference@scma.org.au
X Awards
Once again the X Awards will be recognising Excellence within community broadcasting but the way to enter will be changing, as from the 1st of July Members of the SCMA will be able to submit entries to the X awards on-line via mySCMA. This will mean that you can not only enter the awards but manage your entries via mySCMA.
It is amazing how many stations who have picked up X Awards in past years who were not going to enter because they didn’t think their stuff was good enough. Let the Judges be the Judge of that after all you may be surprised by the results and picking up an X Award is not a bad result.
Make sure you start to have a look at what your station has been doing since the last X Awards and submit your entry on-line for the 2011 X Awards.
There will be more information on the 2011 National Regional Rural and Sub Metro Broadcasters Conference added to the website and mySCMA in the future.
Fundraising
Has your station started to fundraise to attend the 2011 National Regional Rural and Sub Metro Broadcasters Conference?
So many stations are now fundraising to attend our conference or to ensure that they have enough delegates to cover all the workshops and training sessions available to them. Give it some thought and submit your fundraising suggestions and successes to conference@scma.org.au we would love to hear about them and pass them on to other stations to help them raise funds to attend the conference.
At this point in time it is important that you put the dates in your Diary and start to plan to be in Wagga Wagga on March 11th, 12th and 14th 2011 to follow on from the huge success that the 2010 conference was. You have seen the pictures you have read the stories now come and experience the friendliness, openess and camaraderie of the 2011 National Regional Rural and Sub Metro Broadcasters Conference for what will be a great weekend of information, networking, fellowship and defiantly a few laughs as well.
